Movie Review: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”

The latest episode of Captain Jack Sparrow has been released from Disney and it is the best of the follow-ons so far. It has a good story and leaves plenty of leeway for another episode.

Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and is augmented by a fine cast. The story begins with a young boy, Henry, searching for his father, Luke (Orlando Bloom), now cursed to guard Davey Jones’ locker for eternity.  He’s sent back but with a token from his father and with the knowledge that Poseidon’s Trident can end all curses of the sea. The problem is finding the trident.  Years later, Henry, now a young man (Brenton Thwaites) meets Carina (Kaya Scodelario), a young woman who is also searching for the trident and together, they team up with Captain Jack Sparrow, to find it. They run into a series of roadblocks and pirates along the way as expected.

There was a lot of action, some just nonsensical and silly, but amusing. The make-up for the actors and all of the computer graphics were amazing. Most importantly, it told a complete story from beginning to end. Of note, Paul McCartney has a small role as Jack Sparrow’s uncle.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and very entertaining. It’s a good one.
